Online Personal Training: How to Stay Fit Anywhere with a Bali Coach

What Is Online Personal Training?
Online personal training is a coaching service delivered remotely via video call. Instead of meeting your trainer at a gym or villa, you connect through a platform like Zoom, Google Meet, or WhatsApp Video. Your trainer guides you through every exercise in real time — cueing form, adjusting technique, and adapting the session as you go.
It is not a pre-recorded video. It is not a generic app programme. Online personal training is a live, interactive session with a certified coach who knows your name, your goals, and your history. The only difference from in-person training is the screen between you.
In addition to live sessions, your trainer provides a written programme you can follow independently on other days. This gives you structure for the full week, not just the sessions you do together.
Benefits of Working with an Online Coach
Online coaching has grown significantly in recent years. And for good reason. It offers advantages that in-person training simply cannot match.
Personalised Programme — No Cookie-Cutter Plans
Every client is different. Your starting point, your goals, your schedule, and your available equipment are all unique to you. A good online fitness coach builds a programme around those specifics — not a template that gets handed to every new client.
Before your first session, your coach will complete a thorough consultation. They will ask about your fitness history, any injuries or limitations, what equipment you have access to, and what you are trying to achieve. From there, they design a programme that fits your life exactly.
Furthermore, the programme evolves as you do. Your coach tracks your progress and adjusts the plan regularly. This keeps training challenging and prevents the plateau that most people hit when following a static programme.
Train from Home, Hotel, or Gym
One of the biggest advantages of online coaching is flexibility of location. You are not tied to a specific gym or city. Your session happens wherever you are — your living room, a hotel room on a business trip, a park, or a fully equipped gym if you have access to one.
Your coach designs each session around the space and equipment available to you. No barbell? No problem. Training in a small apartment? Your coach will programme accordingly. The quality of the coaching does not change based on where you are.
This makes online training especially well-suited to frequent travellers, people who relocate often, and anyone whose schedule changes week to week.
What Online Coaching Sessions Look Like
A typical online session lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Here is what happens from start to finish.
You connect via video call at the agreed time. Your coach starts with a brief check-in — how you are feeling, how the previous session went, and whether anything has changed. This takes two to three minutes and helps the coach calibrate the session appropriately.
Next, you move through a structured warm-up. Your coach watches your movement and gives real-time feedback on technique. Then the main session begins — whether that is strength training, HIIT, Pilates, yoga, or a combination. Your coach counts reps, tracks rest periods, and adjusts the intensity based on how you are responding.
The session closes with a cool-down and a short debrief. Your coach notes what went well, what to work on, and what to expect in the next session. It feels personal because it is.
Online Coaching vs In-Person Training: Which Is Right for You?
Both formats have real value. The right choice depends on your situation.
Choose in-person training if you are currently in Bali, prefer hands-on coaching, or want physical adjustments during sessions like yoga or Pilates. In-person sessions are also ideal if you are just starting out and want the extra confidence of having a trainer physically present.
Choose online coaching if you live outside Bali, travel frequently, have a variable schedule, or want to continue a programme you started in person. Online coaching is also a great starting point for people who feel self-conscious in a gym environment. Training from home removes that barrier entirely.
Many clients use both. They train in person when visiting Bali and switch to online coaching when they return home. This gives them continuity — the same trainer, the same programme, and the same momentum — regardless of where they are in the world. You can explore all in-person options on our Bali training services page.
What Equipment Do You Need for Online Coaching?
Very little. Most online programmes are designed around what you already have. Here is what helps — but nothing here is essential from day one.
- A clear space — roughly two metres by two metres is enough for most sessions
- A mat — useful for floor-based exercises, Pilates, and yoga
- Resistance bands — affordable, portable, and highly effective for strength training at home
- A pair of dumbbells — optional but adds variety to strength sessions
- A stable internet connection — essential for a smooth video call experience
- A phone or laptop — positioned where your coach can see your full body during exercises
If you have access to a gym, your coach can incorporate that equipment into your programme. If you have nothing, your coach will design an effective bodyweight-only plan. The programme adapts to you — not the other way around.
How to Get Started with Online Coaching
Getting started is simple. Send a WhatsApp message with a brief description of your fitness goals, your current level, and the time zone you are based in. The team will match you with the right coach and arrange a free consultation call to discuss your programme in detail.
Sessions are available across all time zones. Whether you are in Europe, Australia, Asia, or the Americas, your coach will find a time that works for your schedule. Most clients start with two sessions per week and adjust from there.
If you are currently in Bali, you can also begin with in-person sessions and transition to online coaching when you leave. This is one of the most effective ways to build momentum quickly and then maintain it long-term. Find out more about our online coaching programme here.

Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment do I need to start online coaching?
You do not need any equipment to get started. Your coach will design a bodyweight programme that works in any space. As your training progresses, they may recommend adding resistance bands or a set of light dumbbells — both of which are inexpensive and easy to find anywhere in the world.
What time zones do you work with?
All time zones. Our coaches are based in Bali (WITA, UTC+8) but work with clients across Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Americas. Session times are arranged to suit your local schedule. Early morning and evening slots are available for clients in significantly different time zones.
How many sessions per week do you recommend?
Two sessions per week is a great starting point for most clients. This gives you regular coaching contact while leaving room for independent training days in between. Clients with more ambitious goals or more available time often move to three sessions per week after the first month.
Can I switch from online to in-person coaching if I visit Bali?
Absolutely. Many clients move between online and in-person sessions depending on where they are. When you visit Bali, your trainer can meet you at your villa or hotel for in-person sessions. When you return home, you switch back to video call. Your programme stays consistent throughout.
Is online coaching suitable for yoga and Pilates?
Yes. Online yoga and Pilates sessions work very well via video call. Your instructor can see your alignment clearly, offer verbal cues and corrections in real time, and guide you through a full session just as effectively as in person. Many clients find online yoga sessions more relaxing than going to a studio, simply because they can practise in the comfort of their own home.
